  Disabled Persons 

A person is automatically eligible for Medicaid once the Social Security Administration determines he or she is disabled and can receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).  Medicaid supports home and community based programs that serve the disabled, in addition to institutional care.  Many people with disabilities prefer to receive care at home, or through means other than a long-term care facility.  Therefore, DHHS contracts to provide cost-effective health services and programs that allow individuals to get the care and supplies they need to live more independently.
