The Department of Health and Human Services supports a number of medical and social programs for the state's senior community.  One of the newest is the SILVERxCARD program, a Medicaid waivered program that assists approximately 50,000 seniors in meeting their pharmaceutical needs.  Almost 75% of all nursing home beds in South Carolina are funded through Medicaid, as well as a number of home and community based programs.  DHHS contracts with local senior service providers to support those older adults who have the greatest social, economic and health needs.  This statewide "aging network" also provides training, advocacy and opportunities for these seniors.
